Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the contribution of people of Bihar towards development on India in his Bihar day wish. Read here, why do we celebrate Bihar Diwas on March 22.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his warmest wishes to the people of Bihar on Wednesday in observance of Bihar Day. He mentioned the state’s rich history and culture and lauded its citizens for their diligence and hard work.

“Many congratulations to all our brothers and sisters of the state on Bihar Diwas! Famous for its rich history and vibrant culture, the people of Bihar are making incomparable contribution in every field for the development of the country. With their dedication and hard work, they have created a special identity (translated from Hindi),” prime minister tweeted.

1)Every year on March 22, Bihar Diwas, also known as Bihar Foundation day, is celebrated to commemorate the day in 1912 when Bihar was separated from the Bengal Presidency. The state of Bihar was established after the British emperors decided to divide the Bengal province. Bengal was split at the time into a new region that included Bihar and Orissa.

2) The day is observed as a tribute to Bihar’s rich history and culture as the state has long been a major centre of learning and power. The famous dynasties and empires that once resided in Bihar included the Mauryas, the Guptas, and the Palas. It has also been a hub of learning and scholarship with institutions like Nalanda and Vikramshila, which were among the oldest and most famous centers of education in the world.

3) On Bihar Day more than 10 crore Biharis unite in a common experience; an experience that, while it may not be simple or essential to explain, nevertheless links them to this wonderful region and its people. It is a time to celebrate their past achievements and look forward to a bright future for the state.
