The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is investigating a single-vehicle fatal collision that occurred earlier this morning on 17 Street in southeast Edmonton.
At approximately 4:30 a.m., Saturday, July 29, 2023, EPS Southeast Branch patrol officers responded to a collision call at 17 Street and 34 Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located a 2014 Cadillac Escalade in a nearby field engulfed in flames.
There were six occupants travelling inside the vehicle at the time of the collision. Paramedics treated and transported five of the occupants to hospital, two of which sustained life-threatening injuries.
The sixth occupant, a 21-year-old male, was discovered deceased, after being ejected from the vehicle during the collision.

Police have since closed the northbound and southbound lanes of 17 Street between Silverberry Road and 34 Avenue, while they continue to investigate. Motorists are advised to avoid this area in southeast Edmonton until further notice.
MCIS investigators believe the driver of the Escalade may have been street racing with another unidentified vehicle northbound on 17th Street at the time of the collision.
