Two men charged following extensive drug trafficking investigation

Edmomton: 09-Feb-2023- Two men are facing 102 charges after multiple firearms and more than $930,000 in drugs and cash were recovered from two residences following a drug trafficking investigation.

In July 2022, the EPS Drug and Gang Enforcement (EDGE) Section initiated a drug trafficking investigation into Adam Salah Johma, 53, after he was identified in a previous drug trafficking investigation. During the investigation, police discovered that two men were using a vacant residence in the Glenora neighbourhood to store controlled substances and firearms. On Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022, officers with EDGE Section and the EPS Tactical Unit executed two search warrants, one at the vacant residence in Glenora and one at a residence in the Cameron Heights neighbourhood. During the searches, police located a variety of drugs, cash and firearms including:

8.5 kg of cocaine (approximate street value $585,000)
Over 11,000 Xanax pills (approximate street value $234,000)
More than 250 oyxcodone pills (approximate street value $7,100)
Psilocybin (approximate street value $1,800)
Cannabis gummies (approximate street value $5,000)
24 kg cocaine buffing agent (approximate street value $96,000)
Approximately $3,100 in cash
8 handguns
Numerous high-capacity magazines with over 1400 rounds of ammunition

Of the firearms seized, two were listed as stolen and two were smuggled into Canada, including one that was determined to be linked to a November 2021 west Edmonton shooting and one that had a 3D printed frame and was converted to function as fully automatic. Investigators have since determined that neither suspect had a valid Possession and Acquisition License (PAL)

On Thursday, Feb. 2 and Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023, respectively, a 34-year-old man and Adam Salah Johma, 53, both of Edmonton, were charged with a combined total of 102 charges in relation to these search warrants, including possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and numerous firearms related charges. The 34-year-old man was also charged with breaching previous firearms prohibitions and a release order.

On Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, officers with EDGE Section and the EPS Tactical Unit also assisted the North Battleford Saskatchewan RCMP Gang Task Force with a search warrant on another residence in the Glenora neighbourhood. During the search warrant, police learned that a two-year-old child was living in the residence while the trafficking was taking place. The EPS Child at Risk Response Team (CARRT) was subsequently called in to assist, and the child was placed in the care of family.

Following the recent February seizure, the 34-year-old man charged in relation to the November search warrants and Robert Trach, 59, of North Battleford, Sask. have been jointly charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of cannabis for the purpose of unlawfully distributing it and possessing contraband tobacco for the purpose of sale. The 34-year-old man is also facing 27 additional charges including, obstructing a peace officer, arson and child endangerment. The 34-year-old accused has not been named to protect the identity of the child involved.
