Police investigating fatal northeast collision

Edmonton (Times Bureau) The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is investigating a three-vehicle fatal collision that occurred earlier this week in northeast Edmonton.
On Sunday, July 16, 2023, at approximately 3:10 p.m., a 41-year-old female operating a 2007 Toyota Matrix was travelling west on 153 Avenue approaching the intersection of 66 street. At this time, a 2015 Toyota Rav4 operated by a 47-year-old female with an 86-year-old passenger, was travelling south on 66 Street. A collision occurred between these two vehicles, and the impact of the collision caused the Matrix to collide with a third vehicle that was stationary in the turn lane facing east on 153 Avenue.
Initially, injuries were considered minor, and EMS were requested for precautionary reasons to medically check the occupants. While checking on the passenger of the Rav4, the 86-year-old female’s condition suddenly deteriorated. She was subsequently transported to hospital where sadly she passed away. Major Collision Investigative Section (MCIS) took over the investigation. Speed nor impairment were factors in this collision, but
determining which vehicle travelled through a red light is being investigated.
Witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the vehicles involved or the moments leading up to the collision can reach out to the EPS by calling 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
